Relax! It’s just my yarn stash!

It’s a yarn artist’s thing, some of y’all will just never understand. 💖

Funky Air Bear

corrugated_stackWhat the big deal with having a yarn stash?!

Only a knitter/crocheter would understand another knitter/crocheter. I’ve had many conversations with non-knitters about why I need more yarn, a different colour yarn, a different weight yarn, a different size needles, a different pattern, etc. I have had to explain the basics of knitting so many times that I feel like a broken record – no, super bulky yarn isn’t ideal for knitting a newborn baby hat; lace looks beautiful but it isn’t ideal for knitting slippers; just because I have size 3 needles doesn’t mean I can use them to knit all weights of yarn… and it goes on and on.

Same goes for how much yarn knitters have. What is wrong with having yarn? I mean people collect all kinds of things and usually are proud of their collections. So why the guilt every knitter feels when someone mentions…

Miniature Stockings

I’ve got 23 days…okay more like 22 and a 1/2…to finish 40 days of Christmas preparations. By when I found a box of Christmas decorations I made last year, and all of these precious miniature stockings were inside, I knew y’all would love them!

I use these to hold small bottles of specialty hand creams and bars of cold press soap, then arrange them in gift baskets with Spa Quality Wash Cloths.

I used this free pattern to make tiny stockings to decorate the tree. The girls and I also hung them in backpacks and handbags. I made some in team colors to add a personal touch to wrapped packages for sports enthusiasts.

I use for a bigger hook to make gift card holders! And they look really cute on wreaths and garlands.

I hope y’all get a chance to make a few!

WIPs Wednesday

With cheer season behind us (go, Longhorns!) and the early arrival of my grandson (go, Marshall!) and the upcoming arrival of my son from Germany (go, Kevin!), I decided to organize my current projects and make a plan for tackling both personal and professional WIPs.

I started a special request on Monday and I should be done before the next cold front arrives this is a child sized version of the  Bouvardia Hooded Jacket pattern. I don’t normally make garments using Red Heart Super Saver but my junior client was insistent of the color scheme.

73830652-e89b-4349-b54f-e470fb98882eI’ve been working on a robe of my own design for months now. I’m using Wool Free Lace in geode and tarnished silver that my eldest daughter (and new mother) fell in love with when she saw it in another project of mine. It took at least three do-overs before I came up with something I really liked and I intended to have it finished for the new mother by Thanksgiving. Circumstances dictated otherwise and, while I am still making progress, my deadline is sort of…flexible.

I received a special order for spa cloths that will be given as gifts. Creme de la Creme yarn looks and feels super luxurious without busting your budget. I love small projects like these because I can take them with me to practices, games and lessons without hauling half my stash with me.

Theres also a sweet little doll in the works, but I’ll have more on her once she’s finished.

What’s on your hook?

A Yarny Giveaway…

Contests are great, and so is her blog!

Crochet blog

Yes, that’s right I’m having a little yarny giveaway here at the Nest.  The purpose for such frivolity I hear you ask?

Well, it is a belated celebration of my 2 year blogging anniversary; which was actually back in June.  Whilst I was aware this occasion had come and gone, life was a little too hectic to mark the occasion.  So, I parked the celebration temporarily and am now ready with a little yarny give-a-way.

This year has been frantic and I want to thank  all of my regular readers for being patient with me along this journey and for all of your cheering on! It has really helped me and if you’re relatively new around here consider it a welcome.

So before I get to the give-a-way, I thought I would just highlight some of my favourite posts from the last 12 months.

Oh, my! We need to do this!

DaniellaJoe's Blog

The International Yarn Bombing Day for this year is set for June 11 and 12th, all over the world.

If you would like more informationyou can check out the Facebook page here.

Yarn Bombing is when you go out and cover the town in crochet, similar to what a Graffiti Artist does, the only difference is that the outcome is nicer looking, I am a little bias, excuse me 🙂

I have never attempted to yarn bomb anything but there’s always room for improvement….

Wrist Love For Crocheters

An incredibly useful post!! I think a little pre-crafting warm up is exactly what I need.

Of Snailmail, Books & Vanities

cat-691175_960_720I’ve been crocheting a cardigan which has significantly increased the number of ‘swirling’ motions I do with my right wrist through the copious use of treble stitches.

Add this bag to that.

Plus my quest to improve my wheel pose (which challenges my wrists, among other body parts).

And I’m feeling something just a tad bit off in my right wrist o_O

I am reminded of an amazing crochet artist whose blog I regularly visit for inspiration. She’s been out of commission for quite some time now due to wrist issues.

So my dearest fellow hookers I thought I’d make this post all about wrist/hand care exercises because most of the time, we just take for granted how important our amazing and very hardworking hands/wrists are. And they hardly ever complain! Unless perhaps when it’s too late 😮 😮 😮

I know it’s very hard to put down those hooks…

Kid-Size Lacy Spring Top

I’ve been incredibly busy both special requests for customers (yay!) and crocheting for fun. But I finished something this week that I am excited to share with all of you!

This is my latest creation adapted from an adult pattern. The yarn has been discontinued so I substituted Berroco Weekend DK in iris (Sarina’s choice of color), but otherwise I followed the pattern as written with fewer repeats to fit a child.

This top is very feminine and I love the edging detail. It’s also lightweight and stretch and provide full coverage in the bodice so a camisole isn’t necessary.

You can find the pattern at
